"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TO MAKE IMPORTANT DECISIONS"
Luke 6:12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Luke 6:13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:
Luke 6:14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew;
Luke 6:15 Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot;
Luke 6:16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.
Some explanatory thoughts and applications:
1. The first thing that strikes us from this passage, is that Jesus prayed before He chose whom He would name apostles.
2. Luke's gospel presents Jesus to us as man. And, as a man, He prayed. He prayed at various times, for various needs. And, here, we find Him praying, and not only praying, but praying all night to God about whom He would choose to be His apostles.
3. Needless to say, if Jesus felt the need to pray when making decisions, there's no doubt about it, but we ought to follow His example. We ought to pray also about what lays ahead of us and seek God's wisdom and direction.
4. God promises to hear our prayers, and He promises to give us wisdom.
5. If you are like me, you probably wished you were more like Jesus in this area of prayer, and followed His example of decision making.
6. The good news is, that we can follow Jesus's example, we can pray, we can talk to God, and we can be confident, that He will lead us in making the decisions that He wants us to make.nAfter all that's really the purpose of prayer anyways isn't it. Prayer is to find God's will, not to try and make God do our will. We get that mixed up and turned around a lot.
7. So, are you facing a decision right now? And, You are wondering what decision do I make.? Well, let's put or faith into action, and, let's do what Jesus did. let's pray.
Our prayer for the decisions that lie ahead:
Father, thank You for the example Jesus is to us. And, thank You that You have promised to hear us, to answer us, to guide us in our decisions. It's interesting to note that one of the apostles, turned out to be a traitor, Judas, the name that is never thought of well.
Even in our decision making Lord, even after prayer, there may be things that surprise us.
But, even Judas was part of your plan. We trust You to draw us into Your will, and when the surprises do come along, help us to remember that we have prayed, and, that You have some purpose in mind. In Jesus name. Amen.

"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE CONCERNING GOD'S GRACE"
"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE CONCERNING GOD'S GRACE"
Acts 20:32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
Heb 10:29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
Some explanatory thoughts and application:
1. Grace of course means, God's unmerited favor. It is as pastor/author Warren Wiersbe said, "God's grace is God's provision for our every need. God's grace is not a mystical substance, that God pours into us when we have a need. Grace, is God's bountiful supply for our every need. Law means that I must do something for God, but grace means, that God does something for me. Grace cannot be deserved. Grace cannot be earned. Grace can only be given"
2. There are several things said here about grace, that is, about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All for our benefit and help.
3. Jesus is called the Word of His grace. See Acts 20:32 above. And, Paul was commending, or encouraging the Ephesian elders, to be committed to or presented to or set before Jesus, the Word of His grace. He also tells us what the Word of His grace, "Jesus" is able to do. He is able to build us up, and to give us an inheritance among all those who are sanctified, or set apart to God, by faith in Jesus Christ.
4. The Holy Spirit is spoken of in Heb 10:29, and called, "The Spirit of grace" This third person of the Trinity then, is given this wonderful name, "The Spirit of Grace" He is also called the Helper.
5. Notice the wonderful truth and invitation, and promise given to us in Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
6. Finally, we have a beautiful name given to us about God. In 1st Peter 5:10, He is called the God of all grace. And, this name is given in connection with His calling in our lives, He has called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, ( that is, by our faith in Christ for salvation ) Then, the subject of suffering is brought up. That God in His grace, will do a number of things in your life. He will perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you.
7. Here's how the above verse from 1st Peter 5:10 reads in the NLT. In his kindness God called you to his eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.
8. So, then, to round it all off, God is indeed the God of grace, the Son is gracious, the Spirit is gracious, and our Father is also.
A prayer:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we are the blessed recipients of Your favor. We do not deserve the grace you give. We did not earn it, nor could we ever. You have not given us justice, which we deserve, but, You have given us mercy and grace. Thank You.
We will for all eternity be glorifying You for what you do, and what You have done. Thank You.

"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE NEEDING POWER"
"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE NEEDING POWER"
Eph 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
Eph 5:18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. NLT Version.
Some explanatory thoughts and application:
1. The Lord was telling the Ephesians, and us, what not to do in our lives. And, that is to be drunk, or intoxicated with wine.
2. The reason is because, getting drunk will ruin your life.
3. But, please notice what the Lord does say to do. Eph 5:18b Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. NLT Version.
4. When we are controlled by the Holy Spirit, we will find the Lord giving us His power in our lives.
5. His power helps us to deal with our sins, to turn away from them, and to turn to Him, and to obey Him, and to serve Him, and to find the basic power we need to live the Christian life. God's power will stimulate our souls in the right way.
6. It's helpful and interesting to note, that Eph 5:18, is not given to us in the form of a suggestion, but rather, in the form of a command. It literally means, that we are to be being filled with the Spirit. That is, each one of us, day by day, hour by hour, are to allow the Holy Spirit to control our lives. How do we do this.? Good question. One sure answer is to simply obey the promptings of the Lord, the clear things we see and read, and hear in the Word, in other words, just follow Jesus. You will find Him giving you power.
A Prayer:
Our Father who is in heaven, and helps us here on earth, we want to just pause and say that we hallow Your name, we want You to be lifted up in our lives, and we thank You for being so kind and gracious to us, to give us the power we need to live day by day while we wait to go to heaven and be with You forever, and forever.
While we are here, we also appreciate the commands You give us. They are so good for us. We can come up with many ideas, but You have given us clear instruction about what to do. So, thank You for this command, that when obeyed, leads to our being filled with Your wonderful power, the person of the Holy Spirit.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE SERVING THE LORD"
"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE SERVING THE LORD"
Revelation 2:19n“I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.
Revelation 2:19 “I know all the things you do--your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things. NLT Version
Some explanatory thoughts and application:
1. Jesus wanted the church of Thyatira, and all of us, that He knows all the things that we do and that are going on in our lives.
2. In this case, He was letting them know, that He knew all the things they were doing in their service to Him.
3. Please notice what a great church and group of christians these were. They were working, loving, serving, believing, and being patient.
4. Also, Jesus told them, that He could also see that they were constantly improving in all of the things He saw them doing.
5. They were a well balanced church, and the believers were not standing still, but, rather, they were growing in their walk with Him.
6. This is a great model for our own lives. To have the balance listed here, and to be making progress. They were not standing still nor were they going backwards, but rather, they were moving forwards.
A prayer:
Father, It comforts us to know that You know all about our lives. ( although, there are times if we are not walking as ought, that our knowing that You know, is not comforting, but rather, it's convicting. ) But, for the purposes of this devotional we want to say thank You for knowing about our service. Thank You that You not only reward us in this life, but we are storing up treasures in heaven, and we will one day be given them by You personally. In Jesus name.

"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING WEAKNESS"
"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING WEAKNESS"
2nd Cor 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.
2nd Cor 12:8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
2nd Cor 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2nd Cor 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Some explanatory thoughts and application:
1. Paul was going through some suffering and weakness, because God was using this to keep him from bring lifted up in pride, and to keep him humble.
2. Paul did not like the suffering, and he asked the Lord to take it away from him, but, the Lord did not. He allowed this thorn in the flesh, this messenger of Satan to continue buffeting him.
3. What Paul did find out, is that God's grace was sufficient for him. The Lord told him the following, 2nd Cor 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
4. Paul then came to realize the following 2nd Cor 12:9b Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2nd Cor 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
5. The lesson here for us, is also found in the following. 2nd Cor 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
6. Additionally, we can follow Paul's example, and learn from his example. We serve the same God who sometimes allows weakness, and difficulties to remain in our lives, only to show us that His grace is sufficient to see us through, and that in our times of weakness, then He can give us His strength.
7. So, if you are weak today, weak perhaps through difficulties, satanic attacks, or some other type of situation, please remember, that God knows, and that God is able to help you with His grace, and He will give you His strength to see you through.
A prayer:
Father, Your Word never fails to teach us what we need to know, and how we can find You, and Your will for us in whatever situation we are in. Thank You for caring for us as You do. Please teach us to get to know You better, and to keep You in our minds all through the day. Help us to grow in the grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your Word, and please give us a hunger for it, and for You as we have never had. We need You Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen

"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING"
"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING"
Heb 12:5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
Heb 12:6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
Some explanatory thoughts and application:
1. The writer was stating that his readers had forgotten something very important about suffering.
2. They had forgotten a word of encouragement, or exhortation that speaks to them as to sons.
3. There is two parts to the exhortation, ( 1 ) As God's children, we are not to despise, or not regard the chastening, or instruction that He allows in our lives. ( 2 ) Nor are we to become discouraged by the chastening of the Lord and become discouraged when we are rebuked or being corrected by Him. That is, we are not to just start giving up when we are suffering.
4. Sometimes our Father allows suffering to discipline us, or to correct us, He loves us too much to allow us to walk in rebellion to Him.
5. The purpose of the chastening, or discipline, is to bring us to maturity in our walk with Him. "God's purpose is not or persecute us but to perfect us. Chastening is not the work of an angry judge, as he punishes a criminal. But, rather, it's the work of a loving Father as He corrects His child" Warren Wiersbe.
6. Also, sometimes, the chastening, instruction etc, comes not because we have been disobedient, but rather because we have been obedient. Think of the times when the Lord instructed His disciples to get into a boat, and go to the other side of the sea of Galilee. And, once in the boat, and out in the middle of the sea a life threatening storm came upon them, ( or so they thought) They were actually in a storm because they were following Jesus's instruction, and He was going to teach them some lessons about trusting Him
7. A final thought here is simply this. It's in the verse. See if you can see it and find it as you read along here. "Heb 12:6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” The suffering that He allows, the chastening, the training, etc, is actually because He LOVES YOU.
A prayer:
Father, please help us to not forget Your words of encouragement as we go through difficult times. You have a purpose in all of it. Nothing ever comes to our lives, but it has not first passed through Your hands of allowance. And You have a good purpose in mind as You instruct us. We want to remember also, that you LOVE US. And, we love You Lord.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
